Responsibilities: u2022 Reports to charge RN or designate for assignment of duties. u2022 Under the direction of the RN, participates in the implementation of individualized plans of care Assists patients in preparing for procedure as indicated by the patient's individual needs and abilities. u2022 Obtains patient data and documents accurately in the specific patient's medical record in real time. u2022 Immediately reports changes in patient condition to the appropriate RN. u2022 Correctly labels and processes specimens for laboratory analysis. u2022 Performs EKG. u2022 Assists with admission, discharge, and transport under the direction of the Registered Nurse, prioritizes workflow. Transports laboratory specimens and patient belongings as required. u2022 Obtains blood products, supplies and equipment, patient belongings as necessary. u2022 Rounds assigned areas on a regular basis according to unit protocols. u2022 Performs point of care testing. u2022 Provides assistance to staff in all types of procedures, which may include assisting with equipment, assisting with difficult or combative patients and helping to provide emotional support to patients. u2022 Responds in a timely manner to pick-up and deliver specimen to appropriate areas within the Medical Center. Communicates to responsible RN prior to removing specimen from room. u2022 Documents movement of specimen within unit protocol. u2022 Assists nurse with patient positioning and transporting of patients as requested by the nursing staff. u2022 Demonstrates aseptic technique, when necessary. u2022 Assists the nurse in the emptying and disposal of fluids related to uncomplicated tubes and drains. u2022 Documents amounts in the medical record. u2022 Other duties as assigned. INTRAVENOUS LINE INSERTION/PHLEBOTOMYu00b7 u2022 Demonstrates competency to insert peripheral intravenous lines (PIV) and applies dressing in compliance with hospital procedure. u2022 Demonstrates basic understanding of procedure to be performed ensuring proper placement of PIV line to not interfere with planned procedure. u2022 Provides instruction/information to patient/significant other concerning placement of IV line/care being provided. Assists in emergency situations as needed. u2022 Performs phlebotomy as assigned. u2022 Demonstrates competency in the use of select unit specific monitors, pumps, and other equipment. MAINTANENCE OF HEMOSTASIS u2022 Monitors arterial puncture sites on a continuous basis for any signs of unusual bleeding, reports all unexpected bleeding or changes to the site to responsible Registered Nurse. u2022 Performs appropriate actions as identified in Standard of Care for Arterial Puncture sites (to be developed). u2022 Recognizes signs of possible hematoma formation. u2022 Responsible for providing pressure or devices as ordered by Registered Nurse or responsible MD to arterial puncture site. UNIT RESPONSIBILITIES u2022 Checks refrigerator/freezer temperatures and documents on appropriate log, notify nursing management of any temperature discrepancies. u2022 Notify MCE when defrosting of refrigerators is needed (notify Operating Room Education and Quality Coordinator. Notify Charge Nurse of any environmental or safety hazard, which are unresolved and additional assistance, is needed. Monitor procedural areas for clutter, hallway obstructions and misplaced equipment and supplies. u2022 Pick-up and deliver required items as requested. u2022 Responsible for the maintaining inventory, restocking supplies with supply Chain staff and identifying items needed for reorder. u2022 Maintains a safe work environment: Keeps patient rooms and unit orderly according to guidelines and unit routine. Independently orders, organizes, and restocks assigned areas according to unit specifications. u2022 Maintains emergency supplies. u2022 Maintains a safe patient environment.
