Position Summary:The HIM Release of Information Specialist under the direction of the Manager of Release of Information will be responsible for coordinating the release of protected health information (PHI) for all RRH Hospitals and itu2019s Affiliates from multiple storage media, including electronic records, paper records, and legacy systems. The HIM Release of Information Specialist will be responsible for reviewing requests and authorizations to release PHI to ensure completion and accuracy as well as compliance with State and Federal guidelines prior to release. Collaborates with internal and external parties in person, verbally and in writing to meet/exceed customer needs and/or organizational requirements/goals. JOB TITLE: HIM Tech, Health Information Management (Full time, Days) DEPARTMENT: Health Information Management LOCATION: Riedman Campus: 100 Kings Highway South Rochester, NY 14617 HOURS PER WEEK : 40 SCHEDULE: 730a to 4p or 745a to 415p Key Responsibilities:u2022 Analyzes an authorization for medical information/PHI to evaluate for HIPAA compliance prior to processing.u2022 Receives and processes requests for patient health information in accordance with company, state, and federal guidelines.u2022 Uses extensive knowledge of hospital policy and procedures, and Federal and State laws and regulations to advise and direct other departments such as Risk Management, Ambulatory offices, Compliance, Billing etc. on the process of requests for PHI.u2022 Uses clear language to help internal and external customers understand the specific laws and/or regulations or policies and procedures that pertain to the release of PHI.u2022 Analyzes and validates all Subpoenas and hospital attorney requests received for HIPAA compliance.
