Position Summary:The HIM Release of Information Specialist under the direction of the Manager of Release of Information will be responsible for coordinating the release of protected health information (PHI) for all RRH Hospitals and itu2019s Affiliates from multiple storage media, including electronic records, paper records, and legacy systems. The HIM Release of Information Specialist will be responsible for reviewing requests and authorizations to release PHI to ensure completion and accuracy as well as compliance with State and Federal guidelines prior to release. Collaborates with internal and external parties in person, verbally and in writing to meet/exceed customer needs and/or organizational requirements/goals. JOB TITLE: HIM Tech, Health Information Management (Full time, Days) DEPARTMENT: Health Information Management LOCATION: Riedman Campus: 100 Kings Highway South Rochester, NY 14617 HOURS PER WEEK : 40 SCHEDULE: 730a to 4p or 745a to 415p Key Responsibilities:u2022 Analyzes an authorization for medical information/PHI to evaluate for HIPAA compliance prior to processing.u2022 Receives and processes requests for patient health information in accordance with company, state, and federal guidelines.u2022 Uses extensive knowledge of hospital policy and procedures, and Federal and State laws and regulations to advise and direct other departments such as Risk Management, Ambulatory offices, Compliance, Billing etc. on the process of requests for PHI.u2022 Uses clear language to help internal and external customers understand the specific laws and/or regulations or policies and procedures that pertain to the release of PHI.u2022 Analyzes and validates all Subpoenas and hospital attorney requests received for HIPAA compliance. Researches and validates to ensure all records requested are present and ensure records are prepared for certification.u2022 Works with ROI vendor in tracking and processing releases assigned to the vendor and with other RRH stakeholders.u2022 Participates in cross coverage support of other function based areas as needed and at the discretion of the manager.Desired Attributes:u2022 Self-motivated and able to adapt to shifting priorities in support of clinical and business operations.u2022 Excellent verbal, written and active listening communication skills are required.u2022 Excellent critical thinking skills, systems thinking, and problem-solving skills are necessary.u2022 Ability to maintain confidentiality.u2022 Proficiency in one or more of the following computer systems: Epic electronic medical record system, Cerner, Meditech, or other third party electronic medical record system.u2022 Proficiency in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint.u2022 Experience with Document Management systems preferredu2022 Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.u2022 Experience in customer service.u2022 High school Diploma, required. PAY RANGE: $18.00 - $20.25 CITY: Rochester POSTAL CODE: 14617 The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
