Description We are looking for a skilled Senior Accountant to join our team in Downey, California. This Contract to permanent position offers the opportunity to perform advanced accounting functions, including financial reporting, analysis, and process oversight. The role also involves mentoring entry level staff and contributing to the organizationu2019s financial success within a public sector environment. Responsibilities: u2022 Prepare and review detailed financial statements and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance. u2022 Manage general ledger activities, including reconciliations and journal entries. u2022 Conduct budget preparation, forecasting, and in-depth financial analysis to support decision-making. u2022 Research and resolve complex accounting discrepancies and issues. u2022 Assist with external and internal audits by providing necessary documentation and ensuring proper controls. u2022 Provide leadership and guidance to accounting and clerical staff, fostering a collaborative work environment. u2022 Collaborate with various departments to ensure seamless financial operations. u2022 Ensure all accounting processes align with governmental and regulatory requirements. u2022 Oversee month-end and year-end closing procedures. u2022 Perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate account records. Requirements u2022 Bacheloru2019s degree in Accounting with at least 24 semester units in Accounting. u2022 A minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a government agency or K-12 educational environment. u2022 Strong understanding of governmental accounting principles and public sector reporting. u2022 Proficiency in budgeting, financial analysis, and compliance processes. u2022 Demonstrated ability to perform month-end close, general ledger management, and journal entries. u2022 Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting systems. u2022 Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities. u2022 Proven experience mentoring or supervising staff in a structured setting.
