Summary The John D. Dingell VAMC is recruiting for a qualified M.D. and/or Ph.D. research scientist to be the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) for the Research & Development (R&D) Service. The ACOS/R&D has senior leadership responsibility for all administrative and budgetary operations of the R&D Service and for the supervision and evaluation of Service personnel and will report directly to the Chief of Staff. The ACOS/R&D is responsible for assuring the continuing high quality of the facility's R&D program and the planning and development of the broad objectives of the program so that it supports the patient care mission of Department of Veterans Affairs and the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center. The ACOS/R&D is responsible for compliance with both VISN and Central Office (CO) mandated research policies including those issued by the Office of Research and Development (ORD) and the Office of Research Oversight (ORO). The ACOS/R&D promotes effective communication and working relationships between the facility and its affiliates so adherence to the requirements of the affiliation agreements can be met by all involved parties. He/she integrates the needs of the affiliation relationship with the research and patient care needs at the facility; maintains accurate utilization of manpower, space, equipment data, and cost data; and performs administrative and personnel management functions relative to staff supervised. The Detroit VAMC serves as a major Wayne State University School of Medicine site for pre-and post-graduate education in medicine, surgery and psychiatry.
