Overview UIC Bowhead Transport, LLC is seeking a proven, high-impact General Manager to lead and elevate one of Alaskau2019s premier marine transportation and logistics operations. This is not a maintenance roleu2014this is a lead-from-the-front opportunity. The General Manager will be entrusted with full operational leadership, strategic direction, and financial performance of the business. The right candidate will bring a balance of maritime expertise, business acumen, and leadership presence, with the ability to drive growth while maintaining uncompromising standards in safety and execution. The General Manager reports directly to the Senior Vice President of UIC Commercial Services. Responsibilities As General Manager, you will serve as the central force driving both day-to-day execution and long-term success of Bowhead Transport. Essential functions will include: + Lead the Business + Provide full operational leadership across all service lines, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and direction from UIC Commercial Services. + Establish a culture of accountability, safety, and performance across all levels of the organization. + Drive Operational Excellence + Ensure safe, efficient, and compliant marine operations across diverse and often remote environments. + Maintain rigorous adherence to all applicable marine, environmental, and safety regulations. + Own the Numbers + Develop, manage, and execute annual budgets and forecasts. + Monitor financial performance, control costs, and drive profitability through disciplined execution and smart decision-making. + Track and report key performance indicators, identifying areas for improvement and growth. + Shape Strategy & Growth + Develop and execute strategic business plans focused on market expansion, service diversification, and revenue growth. + Identify and pursue new business opportunities while strengthening existing client relationships. + Lead Business Development + Actively participate in and lead client engagement, proposal development, and contract negotiations. + Represent Bowhead Transport in industry forums, trade events, and key stakeholder engagements. + Build Relationships That Matter + Maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, regulators, and community stakeholders. + Serve as a visible and trusted leader both internally and externally. + Develop & Lead People + Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team. + Foster a culture that values ownership, professionalism, and continuous improvement. + Oversee Assets & Execution + Direct the procurement, deployment, and management of vessels, equipment, and critical resources. + Coordinate seamlessly with internal UIC departments and external partners to ensure successful project delivery. + Stay Engaged & Responsive + Remain actively involved in operations and decision-making, responding to evolving business needs across multiple communication channels. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: + Bacheloru2019s degree in Business, Marine Project Management, or a related field. _(Equivalent leadership experience in maritime operations, construction, or logistics will be considered.)_ + Minimum 5+ years of senior leadership experience in operations, business management, or marine services. + A leadership style that commands respect, builds teams, and delivers results. + Demonstrated success in growing and managing a business, including financial oversight and operational execution. + Knowledge of marine operations, regulatory frameworks, and safety standards. + Proven ability to lead in complex, fast-paced, and demanding environments. + Strong communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills. + Anchorage, Alaskau2013based (or surrounding area), or willing to relocate. + Valid driveru2019s license and ability to travel nationally and internationally as required. Physical and Mental Demands: + Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods while performing administrative and operational oversight duties. + Frequent use of hands for typing, document handling, and operating standard office equipment. + Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally (e.g., documents, small equipment, or supplies). + Requires visual acuity to read reports, review plans, and use a computer for prolonged periods. + Must be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and remain focused under pressure. + Occasional travel to marine operations sites or remote locations, including vessel visits, may require physical mobility and exposure to outdoor elements. Working Conditions: + Combination of office-based leadership and field engagement at operational sites. + Regular travel within Alaska and occasional travel nationally or internationally for business development events or to project locations as required. + A dynamic role requiring responsiveness beyond standard business hours when operational demands dictate.
