The New York Harbor VA Healthcare System is recruiting a Registered Nurse (Nurse Manager) for the Med-Surg/Oncology Chemotherapy units. Responsibilities The duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care. Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution. Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Supports colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Equips staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. Maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, Directives, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOP). Leads the provision of nursing care to patients with complex care needs utilizing the nursing process in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice. Adheres to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. Responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance. Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence based cutting-edge programs/processes. Applies clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes within the immediate practice setting. Leads the implementation of high reliability principles and I CARE values to increase consistency of care delivered and improve patient outcomes. Cultivates alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence. Demonstrates the ability to improve the effectiveness of communications and interactions with others, to inspire their cooperation and confidence to ensure safe and effective outcomes in the current practice setting. Leads education initiatives to expand knowledge and applies evidence-based practice/research resulting in improved outcomes in the immediate practice setting. This position may require additional duties as assigned.
