This job was posted by : For moreinformation, please see: **Overview**The Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is seeking a Transportation SeniorOperations Technician for a position with the Southeast Region of theDistrict Maintenance and Fleet Division. This position is responsiblefor assisting the Supervisor in leading a team in providing the safe andefficient movement of people and goods. The Senior Technician will bethe Crew Leader for day-to-day work activities, following the directionof the Supervisor, and may act as a supervisor in their absence. Themain duties of this position revolve around winter maintenance,including plowing with specialized equipment and treating roads withwinter materials. Secondary activities include maintenance andsupervisory work on roads, bridges, culverts, and related properties.The incumbent will enforce proper safety practices and will assist intrain employees accordingly. Candidates should have strong leadershipskills, in addition to considerable knowledge of the operation andmaintenance of equipment used in transportation maintenance activities. **Environmental Factors**Duties require exposure to extreme outdoor weather. An incumbent must beavailable for considerable overtime during heavy snowfall or otheremergencies. Employees may be required to report to work outside oftheir work schedule and work area and must be reachable by phone. Anemployee must be able to use tools, equipment and lift materialscommonly used in maintenance work. Normal dangers associated with workon or near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, and debris fromroadside litter are present. May be exposed to blood and airbornepathogens. Hazards are always present when working on roads with movingtraffic. Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program isrequired. Considerable overtime work is required, particularly duringthe winter months, and is considered a condition of employment.
