Description Burns & McDonnell is looking for a Staff Biologist to conduct surveys and monitoring for construction, restoration, habitat assessments, sensitive species surveys, avian species identification and nest surveys, vegetation mapping, and other field work for various types of projects, including high-voltage transmission line routing, power generation construction activities and water treatment facilities. As a professional within our Environmental Services Practice, this position will work closely with multi-disciplinary project teams to support environmental permitting, impact assessment, and due diligence efforts for a variety of projects occurring on private and federal lands, including but not limited to linear infrastructure, power generation, renewables, and public works projects. + Conduct routine compliance oversight and monitoring during active construction to ensure adherence to environmental permit conditions and protection measures. + Perform specialized avian surveys to identify species and determine nest status, particularly for raptors and other protected species. + Conduct general biological fieldwork, including habitat assessments and sensitive, threatened, and endangered species surveys. + Collect, analyze, and manage field data using GPS and GIS technologies. + Author technical reports to support federal and land use permit applications, environmental permit applications, and other required client and agency deliverables. + Support project managers with regulatory strategy and client communications. + Travel to project sites as required (approximately 30%). + Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies. Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in Biology, Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences, or related field from an accredited program required. Completion of a master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience. + A minimum of 5 years of professional experience conducting biological fieldwork and environmental permitting. + Demonstrated experience in identifying avian species of the Western U.S. and conducting nest status surveys. + Direct experience performing environmental compliance monitoring for construction projects. + Strong knowledge of major environmental regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, and the Endangered Species Act. + Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. + Valid driver's license required; in addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy. Desired/Preferred Qualifications + Experience with species-specific surveys for burrowing owls, Mexican spotted owls, and various raptors. + Project experience in Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona, and/or Utah. + Professional certifications or credentials from federal or state agencies. + Proficiency with GIS data collection and management software (e.g., Esri Field Maps, Survey123). Compensation $95,000.00-140,000.00 Yearly The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
