Senior Stationary Engineer (Temporary to Permanent) GENERAL DUTIES Under direction, is in responsible charge of the operation, maintenance and repair of all utilities in public buildings and of a steam power plant, chiller plant, fire protection systems, swimming pool or indoor tennis courts; performs related work. - Takes responsible charge of the operation, maintenance, testing and repair of plant equipment such as boilers, furnaces, refuse incinerators, pumps, fans, engines, turbines, generators, electrical equipment, heating and ventilating equipment, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, etc. - Operates and/or supervises the operation of control consoles for building management and boiler management systems. - Troubleshoots problems with computerized controls, determining the source of the malfunction and taking necessary steps to resolve the problem. - Is in responsible charge of operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment in University buildings. - Supervises assigned personnel. - Trains staff in the operation, maintenance and use of equipment and systems. - Prepares work schedules and directs the assignment of personnel. - Working within budgetary guidelines; plans, allocates and maintains inventory and supplies for preventative and emergency maintenance needs. - Prepares equipment and material requisitions, including specifications and vendor bids required for operation, maintenance and/or repairs, - May prepare scope of work for vendor contracts. - Directs and evaluates studies of operating procedures for plant operation and maintenance. - Participates in the review of DASNY plans for new and/or rehabilitation construction projects providing comments and recommendations. - Determines and directs work procedures and prioritizes work in response to changing needs. - Ensures compliance with all jurisdictional codes. - Reads plans and blueprints. -Keeps records and writes reports. CONTRACT TITLE Stationary Engineer-Senior FLSA Non-exempt CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION Brooklyn College is accepting applications for a temporary Senior Stationary Engineer, Level D position in the HVAC Department (Heating Plant, Chiller plant, Field Service). Standard shift assignments are 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm and 11pm-7am. Actual shift assignments are determined per college needs. Note : All applicants must have taken the civil service exam for the Senior Stationary Engineer (CUNY), Exam# 6098 or Exam#6542. Applicants selected for this position will be required to show proof that they took the exam. Continued employment is contingent upon taking and passing the appropriate civil service examination when it is offered and score high enough to be reachable on the civil service list. When a civil service list is established, the College is required to make probable permanent appointments from the certified list to fill all positions including those held by provisional and/or temporary employees. For more information, visit . MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS This is a promotional title and permanent status as a Stationary Engineer (at CUNY) is required for permanent appointment. Additional requirements are: 1. One (1) year of full-time experience as a Stationary Engineer in charge of a high pressure plant supervising subordinate staff in the operation, maintenance and adjustment of high-pressure boilers; OR 2. A valid License for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings. 3. At time of appointment , a valid Certificate of Qualification for Refrigerating Machine Operator (Unlimited Capacity) issued by the New York City Fire Department ; and an Air Pollution Certificate issued by the Department of Environmental Protection. 4. Incumbent may be required, on request by the College, to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness including a Standpipe Certificate, Automatic Sprinkler Certificate, and Interior Fire Alarm Certificate issued by the New York City Fire Department; a Pool Operator Certificate issued by the New York City Department of Health and a Technician Recovery Certificate issued by the Department of Environmental Protection within 90 days from the day of appointment. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Qualfications + Direct experience in the operation and maintenance of BMS systems (Building Management Systems) such as Johnson Controls, Honeywell and American Auto Matrix + Knowledge of service and repair for High Pressure Steam Reducing Stations controls including replacement of diaphragms + Knowledge/Experience in use of computers - able to utilize Windows XP, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook Email. + Knowledge/Experience in the reading of electrical control schematics as necessary to trouble shoot controls + Direct experience in the servicing, repairing and maintaining HVAC controls components such as electromechanical/pneumatic/DDC Controls, VAV boxes, reheat control valves and Low voltage controls including the use of a multi meter. + Experience servicing and repairing Split Refrigeration systems + Experience developing material lists for necessary HVAC repairs and acquiring computerized quotes of said material/services + 3-5 years of facilities management with direct supervisory responsibility of 20+ facilities mechanics + 5-10 years of facilities management experience associated with hospital and/or laboratory environments COMPENSATION $183,138 BENEFITS CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification.
