Data Center Technician (Intermediate) u2013 First Shift Location: North Columbus, OH (New Albany Area) Shift: First Shift Experience Level: Intermediate (6+ months) Position Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to support a project located in North Columbus (New Albany area). This role is ideal for a technician with hands-on data center experience who is looking to continue building technical skills while gaining exposure to leadership and advanced infrastructure work. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills in English, a solid foundation in structured cabling and data center operations, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment. Key Responsibilities As a Data Center Technician, you will be responsible for supporting day-to-day physical infrastructure operations within the data center environment, including but not limited to: + Perform rack and stack of servers, network devices, and other active hardware + Assist with hardware troubleshooting, break-fix activities, and component replacement + Execute decommissioning of cables and active equipment according to project requirements + Pull, route, dress, and secure Cat5e/Cat6 structured cabling in accordance with TIA/EIA standards + Label cables, racks, and equipment accurately and consistently + Assist with RJ45 connector and patch panel terminations with guidance from senior technicians + Perform basic punch-downs on telecom blocks + Support cable testing using basic tools such as Fluke and EXFO testers under supervision + Gain exposure to fiber optic cable dressing and basic handling + Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times + Follow all site-specific procedures, safety protocols, and change management guidelines + Take direction from senior technicians, leads, and project supervisors + Communicate clearly and professionally with team members and leadership Required Skills & Experience + Minimum 6 months of experience working as a Data Center Technician + Hands-on experience with: + Data center environments + Rack & stack + Structured cabling + Cable decommissioning + Break-fix and basic hardware troubleshooting + Familiarity with Cat5e/Cat6 cabling standards + Ability to read and follow technical documentation and work instructions + Strong English communication skills (verbal and written) + Ability to work on your feet and perform light to moderate physical labor (lifting, bending, reaching) Preferred Qualifications + Previous experience working for an ISP or in a structured cabling-focused role + Early leadership exposure or experience mentoring junior technicians + Basic knowledge of fiber optics (handling, dressing) + Prior data center deployment or expansion project experience Certifications + OSHA 10 certification is required prior to start + Candidates must already possess or obtain OSHA 10 before onboarding Work Environment + Professional data center environment + Temperature-controlled facility + Fast-paced, team-oriented project work + Emphasis on safety, accuracy, and documentation Why This Opportunity + First-shift schedule + Opportunity to gain additional hands-on data center experience + Exposure to larger infrastructure projects + Work alongside experienced data center professionals + Strong foundation for growth into lead technician roles Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Columbus, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
