Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._ Responsibilities: The Recreational Therapist on the IMIP Services (units G-9200 & 1-9200) is a member of interdisciplinary treatment teams comprised of nurses, doctors, NPs and PAs, social workers, psychologists, CASACs, PEERs, and interdisciplinary trainees. The Recreational Therapist for the IMIP units will act as an integrated team member providing direct patient care across two units: Unit 1-9200, Inpatient Medicine In Psychiatry, is a specialized unit for patients with acute medical-surgical conditions and co-occurring psychiatric issues that require special attention and expertise. Unit G-9200, Substance Use, Medication Management, Infection Treatment and Support (SUMMITS), specializes in providing acute medical-surgical care to people who have a substance use disorder and need to stay in the hospital for long courses of treatment. The IMIP Recreational Therapist follows NCTRC standards, providing direct patient care through evidence-based programming that is strength-based and person-centered. Individualized assessment guides the RTu2019s treatment to restore, remediate, or rehabilitate specific aspects of patientsu2019 physical, cognitive, social, emotional and behavioral functioning and interests in leisure/play. The Recreational Therapist conducts assessments in a timely manner in accordance with standards and implements individual and group sessions as indicated to realize patientsu2019 treatment goals. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assessment + Assesses all patients referred, incorporating feedback from, and the values of the patient and their social supports as appropriate. Identifies the patientu2019s strengths and limitations in physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral functioning and interests in leisure/play. Conducts the assessment in a timely manner in accordance with standards, always considering patient safety. Implementation + Implements individualized and group treatment using appropriate intervention and facilitation techniques, including functional interventions, therapeutic activities and leisure education. May incorporate skills from related therapeutic treatments within the scope of the RT. Maintains equipment & supplies. Planning + Interprets assessment findings and collaborates with the patient, their social supports and interdisciplinary team members to develop a treatment plan for all referred patients using evidence-based practice. Evaluation + Evaluates patientu2019s progress and satisfaction with the treatment interventions and modifies or discontinues treatment based on patientu2019s progress or change of condition. Documentation + Documents each patientu2019s assessment, treatment goals and interventions, daily progress in groups/individual sessions, and level of participation and satisfaction. Develops a discharge plan in collaboration with the patient, their social supports, and the interdisciplinary team when the patient has met their goals, no longer therapeutically benefits or engages in treatment. Communication + Communicates patientu2019s progress with, and participation in, therapeutic recreation goals through active participation in interdisciplinary rounds. Communicates any safety or behavioral concerns to the team in a timely manner. Teamwork + Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members using effective communication, demonstrating accountability, growth mindset, and empathy. Attends team meetings and participates in Unit-based activities as needed. Education + Provides observation opportunities/guidance for RT interns, shadowing students, and prospective hires. Assists with orientation for new hires. Provides education to patients and families related to community resources for use after discharge. Completes required Hospital, Service & Unit training and MyPath education. Materials Management + Responsible for maintaining equipment & supplies. Inventories assigned unit group/activity supplies and initiates ordering of supplies/equipment through approved vendors while staying within budget. May also need to shop locally when supplies are not available through vendors. Ensures the safety & cleanliness of all materials before using with patients. MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE + Bacheloru2019s degree in Recreation Therapy, or in Recreation with a concentration in Recreational Therapy and completed relevant clinical education required. + Or equivalent combination of education and experience + Some experience in working with individuals or groups in a clinical setting with basic concepts of psychology and pathology. Some experience working with patients with medical illnesses and/or physical rehab needs; preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES + Must be able to facilitate groups independently and able to collaborate with a co-facilitator required. + Basic knowledge of therapeutic interventions for patients with co-occurring physical, psychiatric, and substance use conditions. CPI Training preferred. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS + Registry Credentials (NCTRC). Undergraduate affiliate training and prior professional experience in a medical and/or psychiatric setting; preferred.
