Serving Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties, LASP is committed to advancing equity, justice, and opportunity for vulnerable communities through client-centered advocacy and community collaboration.Position SummaryLASP seeks aCommunity Engagement Staff Attorneyto join its Community Engagement Unit. This position combines direct legal representation with robust community outreach and education. The attorney will plan and implement clinics and outreach events, collaborate with a broad network of community partners, recruit and supervise volunteers, and represent clients in civil legal matters, with a primary focus on addressing the collateral consequences of criminal records and supporting second-chance opportunities.This role will play a key part in educating communities about Pennsylvania’s expanded Clean Slate law and assisting individuals with expungements, pardons, record-sealing petitions, professional licensure appeals, and related matters. A particular emphasis will be placed on serving Spanish-speaking communities within LASP’s service area.SupervisionReports To:Director of Community Engagement & TrainingSupervises:Volunteers, including pro bono attorneys, law students, and other program participantsKey ResponsibilitiesCase Handling and Direct Legal ServicesInterviewing clients; determine eligibility for services; investigate facts and assess legal issuesConducting legal research and interpret statutes, regulations, and case lawProviding legal advice, representation, and appropriate referralsPreparing legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, correspondence, discovery, and related filingsDeveloping case strategy and prepare witnesses for hearings and trialsRepresenting clients in trial and appellate courts and before administrative or quasi-judicial bodiesReviewing decisions and consult with LASP management regarding potential appealsEnsuring compliance with grant and contract requirements and assist with program reportingCommunity Engagement and OutreachPlanning, organizing, and conducting community outreach events, legal clinics, trainings, and workshopsBuilding and maintaining strong relationships with community partners and external organizationsEducating communities about Clean Slate laws and available legal remediesWorking with LASP’s Communications team to develop and update legal education materials, with emphasis on Spanish-language resourcesProgram and Organizational SupportRecruiting, training, and supervising volunteers, including pro bono attorneys and law studentsParticipating in LASP-wide initiatives, affinity groups, and task forcesMaintaining accurate case notes, timekeeping, and files in LASP’s case management systemEnhancing substantive knowledge and skills through CLEs, trainings, and professional developmentUpholding all applicable professional standards of ethics and practicePerforming other duties as assigned in support of program and organizational goalsQualificationsLicensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, or admitted in another jurisdiction and eligible for admission in PennsylvaniaMinimum two (2) years of legal experience preferredDemonstrated commitment to public interest law and serving low-income and vulnerable populationsStrong written, oral advocacy, and organizational skillsProficiency with Microsoft Office, legal case management systems, and online legal research toolsSpanish language fluency strongly preferredCompensation and BenefitsLASP offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package, including a 401(k) retirement plan with generous employer contributions, health insurance with 100% employer-paid premiums, ancillary benefits, and generous paid leave, including holidays, floating holidays, vacation, sick, personal, and parental leave.Equal Opportunity EmployerLASP is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate in employment based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law.
