Role Overview: The Indiana Geographic Information Office (IGIO) seeks a self u2011 motivated individual with a strong work ethic to fill a GIS Internship position supporting the Stateu2019s imagery, elevation, and historical aerial imagery programs. This role offers flexible hours (10u201320 per week) during the Fall 2026 semester, with the potential to extend through Spring 2027. The intern will gain hands u2011 on experience with data organization, data validation, lidar/elevation data management, workflow automation, and geospatial service preparation. The ideal intern is comfortable working independently, experimenting with new tools or approaches, and tackling both structured tasks and open u2011 ended problem u2011 solving. Some project components will be self u2011 contained, while others may extend beyond the internship term and be passed forward to future interns. This position is on-site at the Indiana State Government Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Salary: The salary for this position is $17.25 per hour. A Day in the Life The Intern works under the daily direction of the Imagery and Elevation Program Manager and will assist with organizing, validating, and preparing Indianau2019s extensive imagery and elevation data holdings u2014 including both historical collections and modern cloud u2011 ready datasets. The intern will help maintain the quality, usability, and accessibility of these resources while supporting incremental automation efforts. Responsibilities include: + Organizing and cataloging historical aerial imagery and lidar collections. + Performing general validation of existing imagery and elevation holdings, including confirming coverage, availability, metadata completeness, link integrity, and service health. + Documenting issues found during validation and fixing them, when possible, with guidance as needed. + Supporting data preparation for cloud-based workflows (COGs, metadata updates, directory organization). + Assisting with small-scale Python script updates or contributing to new automation workflows where appropriate. + Helping maintain imagery services in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related platforms. + Supporting QA/QC efforts across imagery, lidar, and derived elevation products. + Contributing to internal workflow documentation, SOPs, and potentially public-facing resources (AGOL hubs, help pages, user guides). + Participating in IGIO team activities, including IGIC meetings and enterprise team sessions, as part of professional development and broader exposure to statewide GIS efforts. What You'll Need for Success Academic requirements: + Upper u2011 level undergraduate or graduate college student. + Degree consentration in GIS, Geography, Environmental Studies, Engineering, Information Technology, Informatics, Natural Science, or related fields. Additional qualifications: + Research, writing, and analytical skills. + Competency in using Microsoft 365 applications such as Copilot, Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. + Strong interpersonal and communication skills. + Ability to work independently and collaboratively. + Attention to detail and ability to perform quality checks on data. + Critical thinking and problem u2011 solving skills. + Experience with Envronmental Systems Research Institute (Esri) applications such as ArcGIS Pro, ArchGIS Enterprise, or ArcGIS Online. + Familiarity with Python or JavaScript is desirable. + Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or cloud concepts is a plus, but not required. + Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
