Job Description

The custodian is responsible for keeping branches and grounds functionally and aesthetically pleasing. This position ensures the branches are tidy, clean and well-maintained.This job announcement is not intended to be inclusive of all functions, responsibilities and qualifications associated with the position, however, representative of the essential job functions and typical criteria considered necessary to successfully perform the position.Responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in assigned areas including sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, clean windows, refrigerator, bathrooms, shower, empty trash, locker rooms, and recyclingCleans and maintains floors, walls, windows, tiled areas, and other surfaces, including striping polish and waxing floors, and providing carpet careCleans, descales and sanitizes sinks, toilets, showers, restrooms, and other assigned areas of buildingRefills all product dispensers such as soap, paper towels, toilet tissue etcReplaces light bulbsEmpties waste containers and replaces soiled container linersDusts furniture in office areas and meeting spaces, walls and ceilingsRearranges furniture as requiredAssist with snow removal as neededParticipates in setups and takedowns and moves furniture and equipment as neededAssist or relieve personnel in other areas in emergency, staff shortage, or job vacancyComplete assigned responsibilities during facility shutdownsMust understand and perform skills established in the YUSA Maintenance Standards ManualOperates all equipment properly and promptly reports any problems to supervisorReports any damage to supervisorAttends staff meetings and trainings as requiredFollows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessaryIncorporates the mission, philosophy and 4 core values of the YMCA in all communication with participants and co-workersPerform routine maintenance as assigned, assist with maintenance jobs requiring more than one personRespond to member and staff service needsHigh School Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalentMinimum one year of related experience in custodial workAbility to work with minimal supervisionProficient with handling basic maintenance repairsAble to work a flexible work schedule including but not limited to afterhours cleaning of the facilityKnowledge and ability to work with chemicals and equipment in the prescribed manner, including ability to read labels, SDS information, and instructionsPrior knowledge or understanding of cleaning agents, appropriate commercial and/or industrial cleaning techniquesPossesses mature judgment and sound decision-makingKnowledge of safety issues related to facility siteAbility to communicate effectively with members, peers, volunteers and supervisorPrior knowledge of methods of maintenance for carpet and hard surface floors and commercial chemical application is preferredFree YMCA Staff MembershipProgram DiscountsPaid Sick LeaveEmployee Assistant ProgramGenerous retirement benefits - 12% after eligibility is metCareer development and training opportunitiesOUR YMCA CULTURE:Our mission and core values are brought to life by our culture.
