No County New York Street Address 39 Broadway City New York State NY Zip Code 10006 Duties Description At the direction of the Chief of Police, NYWC Sergeants coordinate and supervise complex, long-term investigations of labor racketeering and organized crime in the Port of New York, possible violations of the WCA, including prohibited association with organized crime figures and career criminals. Sergeants supervise investigative teams in criminal and administrative investigations. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:u2022 Coordinate and supervise all investigations conducted by unit members.u2022 Collaborate joint investigations with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.u2022 Review and verify subordinatesu2019 daily activities and associated reports.u2022 Conduct unit counseling and disciplinary matters as necessary.u2022 Conduct training of unit members as necessary.u2022 Ensure proper inspection, maintenance, safeguarding, and function of facilities, equipment, supplies, and materials.u2022 Ensure all information and orders are properly relayed up and down the chain of command.u2022 Testify as necessary at criminal and administrative proceedings.u2022 All other duties as may be assigned by the Chief of Police. Minimum Qualifications u2022 A minimum of 10 years of law enforcement experience with a local, state, bi-state, or federal law enforcement agency, including at least 10 years of experience as a uniformed Police Officer. Certified New York Police Officer status is preferred.u2022 A minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory position of Sergeant rank or above directing and managing complex, long-term investigations into labor racketeering and organized crime in the Port of New York, including theft, illegal gambling, loan sharking, extortion, drug trafficking, and other waterfront practices, including possible violations of theWaterfront Commission Act (WCA).u2022 A minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory position of Sergeant rank or above directing and managing investigations into WCA-prohibited association with organized crime figures and career criminals, and significant familiarity with the WCA and New York State criminal law and procedure.u2022 Demonstrated proficiency in leading interrogations and undercover operations, physical, electronic, and other methods of surveillance, executing search warrants, developing confidential informants, and testifying at adjudicatory hearings.u2022 Functional knowledge of technical equipment used in law enforcement investigations, such as audio and video surveillance devices.u2022 Demonstrated experience working with other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as established contacts within the law enforcement community in the State of New York.u2022 Candidates must be a United States citizen and possess a valid driveru2019s license.Additional Qualifications:u2022 Ability to expertly and resourcefully utilize various word processing programs, law enforcement databases, and digital forensic-related tools.u2022 Demonstrated ability to work with all internal levels within a given organization.u2022 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.u2022 Strong organizational and presentation skills.u2022 Demonstrated ability to work in a high-profile, high-pressure environment effectively.u2022 Candidates must be of good moral character and have not committed incidents involving perjury or false statement.
