Canine Enrichment Coordinator Schedule The working schedule for this position is Tuesday - Saturday, 8AM -4:30PM with Sunday and Monday off. We strive to find loving homes for homeless and abandoned cats, dogs, guinea pigs and rabbits, both by adopting animals directly to the public and by partnering with more than 200 dedicated animal placement organizations (our New Hope partners). We also help keep NYC communities safe and rescue animals in need, responding to emergencies that involve animals as well as keeping our doors open 24/7 for people and animals in need. Summary The Canine Enrichment Coordinator provides support to the Behavior and Enrichment Supervisor, assisting with the smooth running of the canine behavior and enrichment programs. The Coordinator will run playgroups, complete the associated notes and record keeping, liaise with the trainer and assessor to identify dogs in need of additional training or enrichment, and coordinate the delegation and completion of tasks as discussed with the trainer, assessor and supervisor. The Coordinator is expected to act as a leader for the team in work ethic, efficiency and attitude both within the team and when interacting with other staff and volunteers. Required Qualifications: + High School Diploma or GED required. + Minimum 6 months experience working with canines in a professional manner required. + An understanding of positive reinforcement methods. + Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds. ( Essential Job Functions : + Keep timely and accurate records of delegation of tasks as well as their own tasks completed with priority dogs. + Maintain and support programs that provide behavioral and environmental enrichment, mental stimulation, exercise, and Fear Free care focusing on cats housed at ACC. + Daily meeting with the assessor and the trainer to discuss dogs requiring additional enrichment, training or behavior modification (priority dogs). Other Responsibilities : + Participate daily in playgroup, most frequently as playgroup director. + Help train new staff members on appropriate handling of dog interactions during playgroup and use of interrupter tools. + Discuss playgroup behaviors with other staff members to make decisions about play style and dog sociability. + One on one cue training, BAT sessions and other behavior modification as needed. + Other enrichment as needed. + Ensure that all eligible dogs attend playgroup on any given day with operational resources available. + Coordinate with the Assessor and Trainer the division of tasks associated with priority dogs. + Delegate as necessary to Canine Behavior Specialists the completion of tasks associated with priority dogs. + Keep inventory of training and enrichment equipment and supplies. + Communicate to the Supervisor the teamu2019s needs for equipment and supplies and place orders in a timely manner. + Run reports and review records to create the daily list of playgroup candidates. + Track playgroup metrics. + Write summaries for all dogs on their playgroup behavior and keep daily records of progress for dogs that have changing behavior day by day. + Fear Free certification required within 30 days of hire. + Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Preferred Qualifications: + Bacheloru2019s degree or comparable work experience preferred. + Familiarity with and understanding of animal sheltering preferred. + Ability to make sound judgements and work independently in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands. + Ability to foster a cooperative, encouraging and positive work environment with staff as well as volunteers. + Ingenuity and ability to think outside of the box to create new and exciting things for our canine population. + Strong communication skills. + The ability to remain pleasant, calm and objective in all situations. Work Environment At ACC it's all hands-on deck. We work together as a team, which means you may be asked to help with tasks that involve working outside in all sorts of weather. As a busy animal shelter in one of the biggest cities in the world it can get noisy inside. Employees should have the ability to remain calm yet professional in stressful situations involving animals and/or members of the public. ACC houses hundreds of animals in its facilities at any given time and with that comes fur, odors and other airborne particles in abundance. ACC offers many low-cost services to pets and people in need. This includes compassionate end-of-life services for people who cannot afford to go to a private veterinary office but still want to provide a professional and peaceful transition for their beloved pet.
