The incumbent performs duties of a journeyman maintenance mechanic which involve maintaining, repairing. installing. modifying, troubleshooting. testing, and inspecting of real and personal property in trades such as electrical, plumbing. carpentry. air conditioning, pipefitting. welding, and mechanical. Responsibilities Define repairs/upgrades and define required materials (bill of materials), tools and equipment requirements, and work assignments of subordinate maintenance workers through project completion. Measures, cuts and constructs using standard building materials. Independently plans and completes projects that involve constructing, altering, repairing, and/or modifying framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, interior/exterior trim, staircases, trusses and beams. Operate and use a wide variety of specialty woodworking machines and tools. Operate and use a variety of tools by setting-up, adjusting, and maintaining tools to meet required specifications. Performs maintenance, repairs, and inspections on steam systems such as steam lines, copper, brass, and iron, high and low pressure return lines, vacuum and drip. Makes repairs to traps and pressure reducing equipment, solder joints. Cuts and threads pipes. Plans measure and lay out carpentry materials using broad knowledge of wood materials and substitutes, with general and precision woodworking techniques. Plan, measure, and lay out carpentry materials using typical shop mathematics for complex and exact projects.
