DescriptionSummary ObjectiveThe purpose of this position is to provide general nursing care to patients in specialized clinics, primary care clinics, schools and homes. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.Examples of DutiesESSENTIALu00a0FUNCTIONSThe essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class asu00a0necessary.Participates in quality assuranceu00a0activities.Assists physicians and nurse practitioners in providing examinations, obtaining patient histories, giving immunizations, and providing prescribed tests, treatments and medicines to patients.Performs nursing assessments and develops health care plans for patients seen in clinics, home and school settings.Examines children for communicable diseases and for communicative disorders and makesu00a0referrals.Evaluates the growth and development of children and confers with teachers, principals and parents regarding child health problems.Assists in preparing for specializedu00a0clinics.Follows clinic operationalu00a0procedures.Provides assessment of patient complaints and recommends appropriate action according to prescribed protocol.Counsels patients regarding health status, risks, recommended actions, and communityanizes and schedules fieldu00a0work.Visits homes of patients with communicable diseases to provide nursingspects premises for potentially hazardous conditions or infractions of sanitary codes and regulations and makes appropriate structs studentu00a0nurses.Provides individual and group health education instruction andu00a0information.Maintains medical records and preparesu00a0reports.Conducts follow up consultations with patients concerning abnormal testu00a0results.Assists in orientation of nurses and other departmentu00a0personnel.Performs related work as assigned.u00a0Minimum RequirementsMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEu00a0REQUIREMENTSGraduation from an accredited school of nursing approved by the Kentucky Board ofu00a0Nursing.OTHER MINIMUMu00a0REQUIREMENTSMust be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kentucky (KRS 314 041) OR possess a provisional license from Kentucky Board of Nursing AND become a licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Kentucky prior to expiration of the provisional license.Must be vaccinated for hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunity, or have signed a declination form within ten days of initial assignment.Must have reliable transportation.Must possess and maintain a valid state driveru2019s license with an acceptable driving history.PHYSICALu00a0DEMANDSPhysical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and bodyu00a0movement.Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORKu00a0ENVIRONMENT)Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.None.AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACTu00a0COMPLIANCELouisville Metro Government is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
