Title:u00a0FXD Paralegal - Social Justice InitiativesVP Area:u00a0School of LawDepartment:u00a0Law Academic Year on CampusWork Schedule:u00a0Fixed daytime hours Monday-FridayTelework Availability:u00a0On-campus PositionFLSA Status:u00a0Non-ExemptEmployee Classification:u00a0Fixed Term StaffHours per week:u00a040Months per year:u00a012Fixed Term End Date (if applicable):u00a02026-12-31Job Purpose:Performs paralegal duties for Advocacy, Immigration, and LGBTQ+ clinics within the Center for Civil and Human Rights (CCHR) and assists with other social justice initiatives and clinics in the Gonzaga Law School. Assists the CCHR and social justice-based work of faculty members and law students and performs a broad range of administrative duties, including grant application and reporting.Essential Functions:- 70% - Paralegal Duties- Performs paralegal duties, including but not limited to drafting and finalizing pleadings, correspondence, and other legal documents, maintains a client caseload.- Performs complex administrative support work for the supervising attorneys.- Assists the clinic supervisors, law clerks, and legal interns.- Instructs students and faculty on court procedures and legal office procedures (e.g., network, family law software, legal forms, and timekeeping).- Reviews client applications for service, including screening and responding to incoming calls and applications, interviewing clients, and makes referrals to outside agencies as needed.- Interacts with law clinic students on a daily basis, providing procedural and basic legal information and guidance.- Interacts with a broad range of clients and members of area agencies and the legal community.- Performs all work with attention to detail, accuracy, and compliance with legal procedural requirements.- Monitors Court dockets for active cases, files court pleadings as needed for active cases, and works with students on case file management and organization.- Ensures that legal documents are prepared according to established formats.- Checks legal citations and references, ensures that legal documents are prepared in accordance with established formats, type legal documents from note taking records, tapes, CDs, handwritten or rough-typed drafts.- Acts as a liaison with grant administrators; prepares monthly and periodic statistical reports and annual grant renewal applications.- 20% - Administrative support- Provides general administrative support to supervising and staff attorneys and clinic manager in support of clinic and center activities.- Assists in supporting clinic events and general clinic activities.u00a0- 10% - Grant Reporting- Prepare grant reports and grant and periodic statistical reports and annual grant renewal applications.- Use spreadsheet database software for related grants.- Additional Duties as Assigned by the DepartmentEducational Requirement:Vocational, Associates, or Technical DegreeYears of Related Experience Requirement:1 yearIn lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.u00a0Certifications and/or Licensures:Valid Drivers LicensePreferred Qualifications:College course work in related field.Status as registered paralegal.Current Notary Public.Proficient in creating table of contents and table of authorities.
