Job Description

Job Title: Cook Job Description This role prepares, cooks, and presents a variety of hot and cold food items for multiple meal periods, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special or catered events. The cook accurately follows recipes and instructions, prepares made-to-order items in a short-order style, and consistently delivers high-quality food and service in a fast-paced foodservice environment. Responsibilities + Accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and cold food items for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special or catered events. + Prepare and cook foods to order that may require short preparation times, similar to a short-order cook. + Work at an a la carte or grill station, preparing food and serving customers as needed. + Read food orders or follow verbal instructions from patrons and prepare food according to those instructions. + Follow basic recipes and product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other menu items. + Provide the highest quality of service to customers at all times, maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor. + Work directly with customers and patientsu2019 families in the cafu00e9, taking orders, preparing food, and ensuring a positive dining experience. + Support patient food service operations in the kitchen as needed. + Monitor and manage supplies and materials to support efficient food production and service. + Prepare food in accordance with applicable federal, state, and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure safe, high-quality food service. + Comply with all safety and risk management policies and procedures at all times. + Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training sessions, and hazard assessments. + Apply all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work. + Assist with general food production tasks, including food prep, line setup, and maintaining cleanliness in work areas. + Handle basic cashier or point-of-sale duties as needed to support customer service. Essential Skills + Demonstrated experience in foodservice, including food preparation and line cook responsibilities. + Ability to prepare, cook, and present a variety of hot and cold food items accurately and efficiently. + Experience working as a cook, chef, prep cook, or line cook in a commercial kitchen or similar environment. + Skill in preparing made-to-order items in a short-order or grill setting. + Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers and patientsu2019 families. + Ability to read and follow food orders, verbal instructions, recipes, and product directions. + Knowledge of basic cooking techniques for soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other menu items. + Understanding of and adherence to food safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards. + Ability to comply with safety and risk management policies and apply OSHA and local safety requirements. + Capability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and accuracy. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Previous experience in a hospital, healthcare, or high-volume institutional foodservice setting is beneficial. + Comfort working in both front-of-house cafu00e9 service and back-of-house kitchen operations. + Ability to handle basic cashier or point-of-sale transactions. + Strong communication skills for interacting with customers, patientsu2019 families, and team members. + Reliability and flexibility to support varying business needs, including peak meal periods and special events. Work Environment This position is based primarily in an indoor hospital foodservice setting, including both kitchen and cafu00e9 areas, with occasional participation in outdoor activities or events. The facility features a modern, state-of-the-art design with open spaces that support an efficient and pleasant work atmosphere. The role requires full availability between 5:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., with a schedule that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as business needs dictate. Team members work every other weekend and every other holiday, supporting continuous foodservice for patients, visitors, and staff. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Lancaster, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.
