Salary Range: Outside Machinist Job Description Position Summary Boston Ship Repair is seeking skilled Outside Machinists to perform repair, maintenance, and overhaul work on a wide range of shipboard machinery. This role involves hands-on work in an active shipyard environment supporting vessel operations. Key Responsibilities + Install, align, and repair pumps, motors, generators, propellers, shafting, bearings, compressors, and hydraulic systems + Operate, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic equipment and systems + Use torque wrenches (metric and standard) to meet precise specifications + Perform alignments using dial indicators, micrometers, and other precision tools + Conduct dock and sea trials to verify equipment performance after repairs + Read and interpret blueprints, manuals, and job specifications + Set up and operate portable machine tools, including boring bars, drills, and grinders + Work on large vessels in an active shipyard environment + Safely perform work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying conditions Qualifications + 3u20135 years of marine, industrial, or shipyard mechanical experience preferred + Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and torque applications + Skilled in the use of hand tools, measuring instruments, and alignment equipment + Ability to read and follow technical drawings and detailed instructions + Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined spaces + Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship Work Environment & Physical Requirements + Shipyard and shipboard conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, noise, and moving equipment + Requires standing, climbing, kneeling, and lifting throughout the day
