We sustain life by delivering high-quality water and exceptional service while investing in the health and vitality of the communities we serve.Job Description:Position Overview:This roleis responsible formanagingday-to-day accounting operations to ensureaccuratepreparation of financial deliverables (e.g.journal entries, reconciliations, reports, close activities) andmaintaincompliance across multiplejurisdictionswithin H2O America. This role oversees accounting staff, reviews complex reconciliations and journal entries, and serves asthe primary liaison in audit processes with internal departments and external stakeholders. Theyassistin developing strategies to strengthen accounting processes, enhance internal controls, support forecasting and budgeting, andminimize financial risk while ensuring internal and regulatory policy adherence.This role will balanceleadership and tactical responsibilities to enable team success. This rolealsorequires strong leadership, advanced accountingexpertise, and strategic thinking to drive operational excellence and compliance.Team Overview:This manager will oversee theGeneral Ledger Accountingteam. This team records, reconciles, and closes out accounts to prepareaccuratefinancial statement and balance sheets for the to ensure integrity and compliance within the H2O America enterprise. They also manage full-cycle month-end and year-end closing processes (incl. Journal entries, account reconciliations, interdepartmental coordination), while ensuring compliance with various internal and regulatory standards.Occasional domestic travel may berequiredfor this role to our various reporting locations.Key Responsibilities:Leadsday-to-dayaccountingoperations to ensure accuracy and compliance acrossjurisdictions.Oversees complex reconciliations and preparations across subsidiary and general ledgers. Acts asescalationpoint for complex discrepancies andestablishesstandards for escalation and review.Conducts reviews for complex journal entries, including accruals and adjustments, to ensure accuracy and compliance.Postsjournal entries as needed.Directs andschedulesmonth-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes(incl.general ledger maintenance,reconciliations, adjustments, complex schedules).Manages data requests from external stakeholders (e.g.actuaries, insurance representatives, insurance providers, asset holders).Assistsin theaccurateandtimelycompletion of regulatory filings (e.g.SECand the public utility authority in each respective state) as needed.Assistsin financial forecasting,modeling, and scenario planning.Managesa team of accounting staffintheproduction ofaccountingdeliverables.Performs hiring, mentoring, and performance decisions to buildhigh-performing teams.Leads development and review of complex financial reports to support strategic decisions(e.g.cost reports, forecast reviews, revenue projects, grant reporting, audit documentation).Prepares complexaccountingdeliverables,when needed.Develops strategies tostrengthen accounting processes, enhance internal controls, and minimizepotential gaps in controls.Supervisescomplexauditprocedures (e.g.developingauditplans, coordinatingauditor activities, preparing responses to complex inquiries).Provides analysis and reports and presents data as requested to various groups, including leadership.Verifiescost allocations are made according to company procedures.Serves as primary liaisonwith internal department and external agenciesin order topresent information, provide recommendations, and support coordinated fiscal operations.Assistsindevelopmentof financial strategicplanas needed.LeadsO&Mbudgetprocessandcommunicates analysis of actual versusbudgetvariances to management.Educatesmanagers in development and analysis of departmental budgets.Provides support in obtaining newlong termdebt (incl. Responding to inquiries), as needed.Regularly educatesstakeholdersand senior leaderson complex accounting topicsand financial insights to inform strategic decision making.Supports the development andinterpretationof companyaccountingcomplianceand controls (incl. SOX 404 requirements).Develops andmaintainsrelationships withvendors, staff, and stakeholders to support organizationalobjectives.Assistsin the implementation of software and system upgrades,as needed.Oversees daily data integrations between enterprise accounting systems (e.g.PowerPlant, JDE E1) as needed.Manages organizationalcash-managementtools, as needed.Performs other treasury and cash management functions (itiatingand/or approvingwires) as needed.Makesrecommendationsfor process improvements to increaseefficiency.Required tocomplete occasional evening and weekend workas part of an on-call rotation scheduleto meet deadlines or address emergencies as needed.Performs other duties or special projects asrequiredor assigned.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degreeand/or10+years of relevant professional experiencewith progressively increased levels of responsibility.Holds relevant certificationsrequiredfor the team’sneedor directed by management.Holding a CPA license is a plus.Demonstrated experience leading technical or cross‑functional teams.Expertisein GAAP and bookkeeping best practices.Strongexpertisein general ledger, journal entries, and account reconciliations.Experienceleadingaudit processes and preparing relevant documentation.Experience in budget development, monitoring, and forecasting.Expertiseinfinancial data analysis andprovidingactionable insights into complex anomalies.Deep understanding oftaxcompliance, internal controls (e.g.SOX)and regulatory reporting requirements.Proficiencyin Microsoft Office (e.g.Excel).Proficiencyin ERP/accounting systems (e.g.Oracle).Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and project management.Strongresearch,analytical,andorganizationalskills.Excellent communicationand leadership skills.Location:110 West Taylor Street, San Jose, CA 95110 USA1399 Sattler Road, New Braunfels, TX 78132 USA93 West Main Street, Clinton, CT 06413 USA93 Industrial Park Road, Saco, ME 04072 USASalary: CT/ME:$101,796 -$183,192CA/TX:$128,112 -$230,622EEO StatementOur company provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.
