Tuition Reimbursement POSITION SUMMARY: The Cook is responsible for preparing food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations. This position also prepares food according to our established policies and procedures and as directed by the Head Cook and/or Dietary Supervisor, to ensure that quality food service is provided at all times. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Role Responsibilities - Job Knowledge/Duties: Prepares and serves meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance Reviews menus prior to preparation of food Ensures that menus are maintained and filed in accordance with established policies and procedures Prepares meals in accordance with planned menus Prepares food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menus Inspects special diet trays to ensure that the correct diet is served to the resident Coordinates dietary service with other departments as necessary Works with the facility’s dietitian as necessary and implement recommended changes as required Ensures that all dietary procedures are followed in accordance with established policies Processes diet changes and new diets as received from Nursing Services Serves food in accordance with established portion control procedures Prepares food in accordance with standardized recipes and special diet orders Prepares and serves bedtime snacks Ensures that appropriate equipment and utensils are provided with the resident’s meal tray Reviews care plans to ensure that current dietary information is consistent with foods served Prepares and serves substitute foods to residents who refuse foods served Must possess complete competence in portion control, food temperatures and tray card procedures Assists in serving meals as necessary and on a timely basis Makes only authorized food substitutions Assists in food preparation for special meals, for parties, etc. Assists in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished Assists in establishing food service production line, etc., to assure that meals are prepared on time Must understand how to read and execute the diet spreadsheet Must be able to use the current Diet Manual to resolve a diet issue in the absence of the supervisor Others as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by Dietary Supervisor Role Responsibilities - Administrative Duties: Ensures that food and supplies for the next meal are readily available Assists in inventorying and storing incoming food, supplies, etc. Performs administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submit to the Dietary Supervisor Recommends to the Dietary Supervisor the equipment and supply needs of the department Must be proficient in the use of the following equipment and the cleaning of this equipment: Blender, Toaster, Freezers, Oven & Range, Steam Table, Refrigerators, Plate Warmer, Coffee Maker, Dishwasher, Garbage Disposal, Can Opener, Three Compartment Sink and Meat Slicer Participates and assists in departmental studies and projects as assigned or that may become necessary Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, etc., as directed EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Must possess, as a minimum, a high school education or equivalent One (1) year dietary experience in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility, or other related medical facility preferred (but not necessary) Must have a sanitation certificate or willing to obtain Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action Must be knowledgeable of dietary procedures Must be able to follow oral and written instructions Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, the appearance of work areas, and perform regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety and proper performance of assigned duties Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing dietary practices Our company provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.
