Job Title: Welder Trainee Job Description The Welder Trainee will participate in a structured training program to develop the skills needed for production welding in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role involves learning to safely operate welding and material-handling equipment, reading blueprints and work instructions, and producing consistent, high-quality welds on repetitive parts. After successfully completing the training program and passing the weld qualification test, the trainee will transition into a full-time welder role on the production floor. Responsibilities + Complete a 7-week, first-shift training program focused on welding techniques, safety, and production processes. + Receive a passing score on the Welder Qualification test and recertify welding skills as required by program guidelines. + Operate an overhead crane to maneuver parts safely into position for welding. + Adjust welding current and settings to achieve proper weld configurations based on job requirements. + Heat and form metal parts and components using hand tools, torches, and welding equipment. + Perform welding operations in flat, vertical, and overhead positions on various metal components. + Accurately operate and read measuring devices, such as tape measures, to verify dimensions and tolerances. + Assemble and weld various metal parts together according to blueprints and work instructions. + Properly position and secure material and parts to be welded to ensure accurate and consistent welds. + Train and work in various areas of production as needed to meet production demands. + Follow verbal and written work instructions, including the ability to read and interpret blueprints. + Maintain attention to detail to adhere to established quality standards and specifications. + Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with safety procedures, rules, and regulations. + Work effectively in both team-based and individual settings to meet production goals. + Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance to support consistent production schedules. + Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the welding and production operations. Work Environment The weld department operates in a high-volume production welding environment with a large workforce, currently around 300 employees with a goal of approximately 400 to be fully staffed. Work primarily involves production welding on the same parts and lifts each day, resulting in repetitive but stable and predictable tasks. The role begins with a 7-week training program on first shift, running from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. After training and successful completion of the weld test, employees move to the production floor as full-time welders on either second shift (4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.) or third shift (7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.), with a shift differential for second and third shift work. Employees must commit to a specific shift. The culture emphasizes the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others. The dress code requires jeans, steel-toe footwear, and a clean work shirt, reflecting a hands-on, industrial production setting where safety and practicality are priorities. Overhead cranes, welding equipment, hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices are commonly used throughout the workday. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mc Connellsburg, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $22.75/hr.
