Fisheries Technician (8-month Rotary Screw Trap Tender) at State of Idaho-Department of Fish and Game-170 in Salmon, Idaho, United States Job Description Watch this video to check out what Idaho Fish and Game has to offer Job Description:The incumbent will serve as a Fisheries Technician - Rotary Screw Trap Tender in IDFG’s Wild Salmon and Steelhead (WSS) program out of Salmon, Idaho. Sampling juvenile anadromous salmonid emigrants is an integral part of monitoring Idaho’s threatened populations of salmon and steelhead.Rotary Screw Trap Tenders will primarily be responsible for the operations, maintenance, and data collection at traps in the Salmon Region.The two technicianswill work in rotating multi-day shifts to operatetworotary screw trapsand alsoparticipateinspawning ground surveys. Positions will assist in varioussampling methods listed below (see primary duties)and if interested there are opportunities to conduct a research project. Primary dutiesinclude:PIT-taggingsalmonids (including ESA- listed fish), collecting biological data (weights, lengths, DNA, scales, etc.),maintainingfield equipment,assistingin PIT-tag array maintenance,spawning groundsurveys,andinstalling/operatingrotary screw traps. Additionalduties mayinclude:data management (recording, organizing, and error checking in multiple databases),andassistingwithotherregional fisheries management projects throughout the region when needed (gillnetting, snorkeling, raft electrofishing). General Information: Incumbents maybe requiredto travel to remote locations for fish tagging, trapping,spawningor sampling operations. These positions standing and working incold waterfor up to eight hours per shift; lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 60 pounds and occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances;operatefour-wheel drive vehicles in rugged terrain; and working in extreme weather conditions.
