Summary The Department is seeking qualified Sergeants who are interested in being considered for assignment to the Internal Affairs Unit. The primary goal of the unit is to ensure accountability, integrity, and ethical conduct throughout the Police Department. Internal Affairs Unit Sergeants will be assigned to administrative duties and work either four tours of ten hours and sixteen minutes with three consecutive rest days or three (3) tours of 12 hours and 20 minutes with four (4) consecutive rest days. Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: + Maintaining and organizing case files and records of investigations. + Maintaining Internal Affairs Databases and tracking the status of investigations. + Coordinate and maintain daily Internal Affairs schedules. + Ensure necessary resources are available for the proper conduct of investigations. + Scheduling interviews, managing evidence, and confidential records. + Act as a liaison to the MTAPD PBA, outside legal counsel, and other entities to ensure open lines of communication are available. + Liaising with MTA Legal team and/or MTA Inspector General Office to ensure proper handling of legal aspects related to internal investigations, such as subpoenas, depositions, or other legal inquiries. + Conduct random quality assurance audits as directed by the Commanding Officer, IAU. + Carry out randomized quality insurance inspections across police districts, individual officers, and a range of operational details throughout the service area. + Prepare reports and summaries for IA Commanders, MTA Command Staff, and the Chief of Police. + Provide administrative support to IA Commanders while they conduct investigations. + Act as a liaison to other MTA Agencies when dealing with customer/employee complaints. + Work with the leave management unit on medical control and military leave issues. + Conduct administrative assignments as directed by the Commanding Officer, IAU Qualifications + Must hold the rank of Sergeant at the time of the interview + Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills + Proficiency in preparing and presenting reports. + Demonstrated administrative skills such as scheduling and record keeping. + Must be able to uphold strict confidentiality standards within the unit. + Knowledge of basic investigative procedures, experience with video and evidence collection preferred. + Ability/willingness to work on-call schedule as needed/directed by Commanding Officer IAU. + Ability/willingness to work Overtime assignments as needed/directed by the Commanding Officer IAU. + Ability to interact and communicate effectively with outside agencies such as the MTA Inspector General's Office, MTA legal team, and the PBA. + Successfully complete a panel interview + Candidates who have substantiated discipline/suspension or who have a documented history of lateness or absenteeism not related to sickness or work injury may be removed from interview consideration or consideration for the position. Complete a
