This role offers a unique opportunity for applicants who have completed basic wildland fire training to gain hands-on experience in wildfire mitigation efforts. The pay for this position ranges from $18.65 to $23.00 per hour, depending on experience. Responsibilities As a Seasonal Wildland Fuels Mitigation Technician, you will engage in a variety of essential tasks aimed at reducing wildfire risk. Daily responsibilities will include performing fuel reduction activities, such as brush clearing, vegetation management, and maintaining firebreaks. You will work closely with experienced team members, learning best practices while contributing to critical projects that protect both our community and natural landscapes. Expect a structured work schedule from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with potential additional hours required for fire suppression efforts as needed. To excel as a Seasonal Wildland Fuels Mitigation Technician, a combination of technical skills and personal attributes is essential. You should be proficient in performing hazardous fuels reduction tasks, including thinning, limbing, cutting, and brush removal. Experience with defensible space and Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) mitigation projects will be beneficial. Familiarity with County, State, and grant-funded fuels programs is an asset. Critical skills include the safe operation of wildland firefighting equipment, such as saws, pumps, hoses, and hand tools, as well as vehicle operations and maintenance. The ability to function effectively within the incident command system (ICS) during wildland fire incidents is vital. You must be able to work independently while managing stress from firefighting operations and environmental factors such as heat and fatigue. Strong communication skills are essential for effectively engaging the public and representing the agency at educational forums. Physical demands include heavy lifting up to 100 lbs, along with walking, hiking, and manual dexterity.
