If you’re ready to teach and inspire, we want to hear from you. Southside Virginia Community College, a comprehensive community college, is seeking a Full-Time 9-month faculty member for Plumbing. The successful candidate must be committed to our mission to provide quality education to a diverse constituency. This is a restricted position, meaning continued employment is contingent upon the availability of federal funds. The current grant is through December 31, 2027; however, this is not a guaranteed time frame. The position begins full-time on August 10, 2026. Responsibilities are but not limited to: Teach up to 15 credit hours per semester in plumbing courses, including day, evening, and/or weekend classes Deliver instruction at multiple locations served by the college, including local high schools, correctional facilities, and off-campus centers Maintain a minimum of 10 scheduled office hours per week to support student success Advise and mentor students on academic progress and career pathways in the plumbing trade Mentor and support adjunct instructors within the program Serve on college committees and contribute to institutional initiatives Participate in program development, curriculum assessment, and continuous improvement efforts Engage in professional development activities to stay current with industry standards and instructional practices Support student recruitment efforts and promote the plumbing program within the community Supervise student internships and support work-based learning experiences Demonstrate a strong commitment to the college’s mission of providing quality education to a diverse student population Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. KSA's/Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 5 years of recent full-time plumbing experience Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, cutting processes, plumbing theory, mathematics, and blueprint reading Must possess plumbing certifications or have the ability to obtain required certifications prior to start date Demonstrated ability to effectively instruct both lecture and lab components of plumbing programs Experience preparing for classes, maintaining office hours, and supporting student learning Ability to maintain lab environments, including equipment operation, maintenance, and inventory management Effective communication skills with students, faculty, and staff Ability to develop and assess curriculum and student learning outcomes Proficiency in using instructional technology for classroom presentations Demonstrated ability to work successfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds Commitment to customer service and student success Willingness to teach in various instructional settings, including evenings and weekends Ability to participate in institutional responsibilities such as committees, recruiting, and program support Ability to maintain and engage with an advisory committee to stay current with industry trends Additional Considerations Diploma or degree in Career and Technical Education or a related field At least 5 years of recent plumbing experience (beyond minimum requirements or in specialized areas) Journeyman or Master Plumber license or advanced certifications Previous teaching or training experience, especially in a classroom or lab setting Experience with individualized instruction and hands-on training methods Familiarity with curriculum development in a college or technical training environment Participation in professional organizations, workshops, or industry events Operation of a State Vehicle Yes Supervises Employees No Required Travel Travel to SVCC campuses, centers, meetings, and training/conferences with access to a state vehicle
