Laboratory Technician (Contract) Location: Frederick, MD Duration: 3-Month Contract (with potential to extend) Monday-Friday First shift, 30-40 hours per week Pay Rate: $22-$36/hour Industry: Biotech / Cell Therapy Position Summary Seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support molecular biology and cell-based research activities in a fast-paced laboratory environment. This role will focus on mRNA workflows (including in vitro transcription), flow cytometry, and mammalian cell culture, with responsibilities spanning sample preparation, assay execution, and data documentation. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with core laboratory techniques and a strong commitment to quality, accuracy, and compliance with established protocols. Key Responsibilities Perform mammalian cell culture, including maintenance, passaging, and viability assessment Execute flow cytometry workflows, including sample preparation, staining, instrument operation, and basic data analysis Support mRNA-related workflows, including RNA handling, preparation, and in vitro transcription (IVT) processes Conduct routine laboratory assays (e.g., qPCR, cell-based assays) to support research and development activities Prepare reagents, buffers, and media according to established protocols Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments in laboratory notebooks or electronic systems Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure compliance with laboratory quality and safety standards Assist with equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting as needed Support inventory management, sample tracking, and general lab organization Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project timelines and deliverables Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related life sciences field Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture techniques Experience performing flow cytometry (sample prep, staining, and instrument use) Familiarity with RNA handling and mRNA workflows, including IVT (in vitro transcription) or related techniques Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols Ability to work independently and manage tasks in a fast-paced environment Strong documentation and organizational skills Preferred Qualifications 1-3 years of relevant laboratory experience in biotech, pharma, or academic research Experience with qPCR or gene expression analysis Familiarity with flow cytometry data analysis software (e.g., FlowJo or similar) Experience working in GMP or regulated laboratory environments Exposure to assay development or method optimization As part of our promise to talent, Kelly supports those who work with us through a variety of benefits, perks, and work-related resources.
