Sr. Mainframe Developer About the role As a Sr. Mainframe Developer , you will make an impact by designing, enhancing, and supporting missionu2011critical banking applications that power core financial operations for a leading global financial institution. You will be a valued member of a highu2011performing delivery team supporting one of our Baking and Financial clients and collaborate closely with business analysts, architects, QA, and compliance teams across the full software development lifecycle. _Please note, this role is not able to offer visa transfer or sponsorship now or in the future_ In this role, you will: + Design, develop, test, and maintain highu2011availability mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2, and VSAM + Build and support CICS online transactions supporting core banking capabilities such as account management, payments, and loan processing + Develop, tune, and optimize DB2 SQL for highu2011volume financial data, including performance analysis and query optimization + Create and support JCL batch jobs for endu2011ofu2011day, endu2011ofu2011month, and regulatory processing cycles + Diagnose and resolve complex production issues while ensuring system stability in a zerou2011downtime environment + Conduct code reviews, enforce development standards, and mentor junior team members + Partner with crossu2011functional teams to deliver solutions from requirements through deployment + Support mainframe modernization initiatives, including integrations with distributed systems and digital platforms + Ensure compliance with regulatory, audit, and security standards (e.g., SOX, PCIu2011DSS, FFIEC ) + Produce and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications and operational runbooks Work model At Cognizant, we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible and support a healthy worku2011life balance through our wellbeing programs. What you need to have to be considered + 10+ years of handsu2011on IBM mainframe development experience, preferably within banking or financial services + Expertu2011level proficiency in COBOL and CICS transaction processing + Strong experience with JCL , z/OS utilities (SORT, IDCAMS, IEBGENER), and batch processing + Deep knowledge of DB2 , including SQL optimization, bind/rebind processes, and performance tuning + Solid experience working with VSAM datasets and access methods + Familiarity with REXX or CLIST scripting for automation + Strong understanding of core banking concepts, payments, and financial processing workflows + Proven ability to support production systems in highu2011availability, regulated environments These will help you stand out + Experience with mainframeu2011tou2011distributed integrations (MQ, APIs, web services) + Exposure to mainframe DevOps or modernization tools such as Zowe, IBM Developer for z/OS (IDz), or DBB + Prior experience supporting large financial institutions or global banking platforms + Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both technical and nonu2011technical stakeholders Weu2019re excited to meet people who share our passion for technology and innovation and can make an impact in a variety of ways. This position is also eligible for Cognizantu2019s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizantu2019s applicable plans.
