Focus and Scope:The main campus of Tacoma Community College is located on a 150-acre site upon which twenty-eight buildings with a composite area exceeding 484,000 square feet. The college also occupies one satellite campus requiring support and maintenance activities.u00a0In addition, the college owns the equipment and vehicles necessary to support campus activities.u00a0u00a0Positions Overview:This position will generally perform building maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction of buildings, grounds, machinery, facilities, and equipment owned by the college. This position is responsible for providing the expertise necessary to maintain a satisfactory facility environment to support activities throughout the institution. This position requires that the incumbent be available daily while classes are in session to respond to requirements involving the college's electrical, mechanical, architectural, structural, plumbing, and HVAC systems. The responsibilities and activities described are a portion of the duties assigned and are based on the needs and priorities established by the College. Therefore, variations to scheduled duties may occur at any time dependent upon specific circumstances and as directed by supervisor. Essential FunctionsPerform maintenance, operation and repair of electrical, mechanical and structural systems of buildings, grounds, and utility distribution.May assist journey trades work by performing duties related to carpentry, painting, plastering, plumbing, steam-fitting, mechanical or electrical work, refrigeration maintenance, machinist trades, etc.Experience operating hand tools, power tools and other shop equipment.Operate automotive equipment to transport materials and supplies.Drive service vehicles as required, load and unload furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies.May manually or with self-propelled equipment remove debris, leaves, brush, snow and ice from areas such as roof tops, sidewalks, stairs, driveways, entry ways, parking lots, roads, and ramps; may have to apply ice melt, sand, and gravel.Clean up and maintain shop areas, work sites, and storage areas.Make recommendation and suggest solutions and provide input to repair and maintenance problems.Experience with locksmith skills.Experience with basic carpentry, plumbing, mechanical repair, welding and fabrication, and light electrical.Ability to prioritize and self-manage work load through changing conditions.Perform assigned preventative maintenance work and necessary repairs of the facility.Respond to alarm conditions related to the operation of the plant and complete necessary documentation.u00a0
