Job Title: Environmental Engineer Job Description This Environmental Engineer role leads the full lifecycle of complex environmental remediation and development projects, with a strong focus on project delivery, quality, financial performance, and health and safety. The position oversees projects from initial cost estimating and proposal preparation through design, implementation, and long-term operations, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and alignment with client objectives. The role suits a seasoned consulting professional who combines deep technical expertise in soil, groundwater, and air remediation with proven leadership in managing teams, stakeholders, and large-scale project finances. Responsibilities + Oversee the day-to-day management of environmental projects with a strong focus on project delivery, quality, financial performance, and health and safety. + Lead projects ranging from small assignments to large, complex remediation and development efforts, ensuring execution meets project, client, and regulatory objectives. + Hold primary responsibility for the entire project lifecycle, including cost estimating, proposal preparation, scheduling, subcontracting, resourcing, execution, and financial management. + Demonstrate strong technical and business competence, applying extensive knowledge of environmental codes, regulations, and industry best practices. + Collaborate closely with field teams, providing direction, oversight, and enforcement of health and safety protocols throughout all project phases. + Communicate effectively with clients, partners, subcontractors, agencies, regulators (including OER and NYSDEC), and other stakeholders to align expectations and resolve issues. + Plan and manage complex field investigation programs, including soil, groundwater, and air sampling, as well as pilot testing and data collection. + Lead complex technical evaluations and engineering design efforts, including development of remedial action plans, system installation plans, operations and maintenance (O&M) programs, and permitting strategies. + Serve as Engineer of Record when applicable, providing technical sign-off and professional accountability for design documents and reports. + Coach, mentor, and support staff to ensure high-quality technical execution and to foster professional growth and development within the team. + Ensure project work complies with requirements of OER, NYSDEC, DEC, and the Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP), as well as other applicable regulatory frameworks. + Manage and monitor large-scale remediation project finances, including budgeting, forecasting, and profitability tracking. + Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to support sustainable development goals and integrate environmental engineering solutions into real estate development and project management efforts. Essential Skills + Bacheloru2019s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related field. + At least 12 years of related environmental consulting work experience. + A minimum of 5 years of direct experience managing programs and projects involving OER, DEC, and the Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP). + Professional registration or certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG), as applicable. + Proven ability to independently lead project teams and manage large-scale remediation project finances. + Broad environmental engineering consulting experience spanning the entire project lifecycle, from investigation and design through implementation and operations. + Demonstrated competency with soil, groundwater, and air treatment technologies. + Experience working with NYC and NYS agencies, including regulatory coordination and permitting. + Strong understanding of environmental codes, regulations, and compliance requirements relevant to remediation and brownfield projects. + Ability to act as Engineer of Record for complex environmental and remediation projects. + Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients, regulators, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary internal teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with OER and Brownfield projects, including brownfield remediation and redevelopment in urban environments. + Background in environmental engineering, environmental consulting, or related disciplines supporting real estate development and project management. + NYC and NYS agency experience, including familiarity with permitting processes and regulatory expectations. + Active PE or PG license, preferably in New York State. + Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop junior and mid-level staff. + Strong business acumen, including experience with project budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance monitoring. + Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines in a fast-paced consulting environment. + Commitment to sustainable development and high-quality engineering solutions that meet and exceed regulatory and client standards. Work Environment This position is based in an office in Brooklyn, New York, with an on-site schedule of five days per week. The work environment supports a dynamic and growing portfolio of real estate development, environmental consulting, and project management assignments, with a significant influx of new projects requiring strong leadership and coordination. The role involves close collaboration with office-based technical staff and field teams, as well as regular interaction with city and state agencies and other external stakeholders. Project work may require occasional site visits to active remediation and construction sites, where adherence to health and safety protocols and appropriate field attire and protective equipment is expected. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Brooklyn, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $200000.00/yr.
