Paraeducators work closely with teachers to provide extra support to students. Applying through this job posting allows your application to be viewed by all principals. During the interview process, the principal will learn more about your skills and interests in order to find a position that fits. ****An overview of common para positions:**** The****Inter Related/Instructional Support (IRIS)****para works primarily with students that have learning disabilities but the students supported could have any type of disability. The focus is on supporting students in their instructional environment. The environment could be in the general and/or special education classrooms as well as with one or more students. Typical responsibilities could include note taking, assisting with content review, reading material out loud, helping the student stay on task or even escorting them to an alternate location for a quieter place to work. (starts at $13.50/hr) Paras working with our****Functional Applied Academics (FAA)****classroom may work with students who have a cognitive disability, a traumatic brain injury, other health impairment, or some combination of disabilities that limit their ability to complete the K-12 general curriculum without significant modifications. The academic emphasis for students supported in FAA is on academic skills that will contribute to their independence in work, recreation, and living after graduation. Paraeducator responsibilities could include providing academic accommodations as well as social emotional or physical support depending on the individual student needs. Some form of toileting is very common with younger students. Toileting needs tend to decrease as students are older but may still exist. All health and safety precautions are followed.(starts at $14.50/hr) The ****Positive Behavior Support (PBS)**** paraeducator works with students whose behavior impacts their ability to learn to a significant degree. The goal of the PBS staff is to help the student learn behavioral control strategies that will allow them to participate with their peers as much as possible. The younger the student the more they tend to outwardly display behaviors such as yelling/screaming, putting head down and not responding or even physical aggression. Non-violent crisis intervention training is provided to all staff supporting students in these classrooms. This training focuses on de-escalation and emotional regulation. Paras working in ****Structured Learning (SL)**** classrooms will assist students who need intensive support and predictable, consistent routines throughout the school day. Many of these students are on the autism spectrum. The educational focus is on language, communication and social skills along with self-help, sensory integration and academic skills. Some form of toileting is very common for all ages.
