This posting was created for those that are pursuing a Master's or Doctorate Degree in Nursing Practice from an accredited Clinical Nurse Specialist program or a Master's Degree in Nursing only if Clinical Nurse Specialty certification is obtained through the state of Michigan via portfolio submission of evidence that demonstrates knowledge and skill competence in the Clinical Nurse Specialist role.Under the direct supervision of a nursing director or VP and in collaboration with other members of the health care team, including the Clinical Nurse Specialist, provides, enhances and improves health care delivery by evaluating nursing practices, developing methodologies and assists with establishing standards of care.Essential FunctionsIdentifies problem situations or issues in patient care. Rounds in clinical area(s) and identifies high risk and problem prone cases for identification of priority interventions. Synthesizes, interprets, makes decisions and recommendations, and evaluates responses on the basis of complex sources of data. Decisions made are based on ethical principles that support the patient and family/significant others and the health care team. Uses the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide practice.Participates in or facilitates coordination of interdisciplinary teams to develop or revise programs focused on group or systems issues.Serves as a role model, teacher, coach, and mentor for both professional leadership and accountability for nursing's role within the healthcare team and community. Ensures practice is in accordance with the Michigan Public Health Code. Provides influential leadership in a manner that is culturally sensitive and preserves autonomy, dignity and rights of patient's, families and staff.Builds relationships with multidisciplinary team members and influences change to advance the level of clinical practice and service. Communicates, collaborates, networks with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure continuity, coordination of services and appropriate utilization of resources.Identifies and communicates resources, both internal and external (e.g., consultants, referrals, community programs, and other healthcare systems) to optimize outcomes for patients and patients' families.Participates in and leads efforts to achieve quality outcomes. Identifies and participates in data collection, utilizes data to measure and evaluate outcomes, and implements process improvement methodologies to achieve outcome targets. Collaborates with nursing leadership to assure that processes and services are continuously monitored for quality, cost effectiveness, and efficiency. Collaborates to create, coordinate, implement, and evaluate formal and informal intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary education to improve patient outcomes and qualify of care.Evaluates current and innovative practices in patient care on the basis of evidence-based practice, research, and experiential knowledge. Incorporates evidence-based practice guidelines, research, and experiential knowledge to formulate, evaluate, and/or revise algorithms, policies, procedures, pathways and protocols. Facilitates processes of change within the healthcare system to provide evidence-based, cost effective care. Provides expertise to guide use of technology, products and devices within the specialty area.Works with staff to identify areas of clinical inquiry and partners with senior nurse researcher for research activities, dissemination and presentation/publication.
