Visit our website at to learn more about us.Role DescriptionAs an Ecological Restoration Technician, you will collaborate with our Senior Ecologists and Senior Ecological Restoration Technicians to apply field-based tools and techniques to restore wetland, prairie, and woodland ecosystems. You will also apply your technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, safetyfocused mindset, and passion to help us achieve our project-specific restoration objectives.Typical restoration tasks will include invasive species control, habitat establishment, natural areas stewardship, and forest management. Successful staff in this position will be provided the opportunity to assist on other project tasks like botanical surveys, ecological designs, habitat assessments, wetland mitigation bank monitoring, and environmental compliance monitoring.This specific job role is unique in that we are looking to hire a candidate in the Milwaukeesurrounding area with the ability to mobilize from their location to specific project sites. This position will have support from Heartland senior staff and staff from our corporate office. QualificationsHeartland will provide on-the-job training and mentorship for the typical tasks completed in this position, including plant identification, herbicide mixing and application, seed and plant installation, prescribed burning, and equipment operation (ATVs UTVs, tractor and attachments, power saws, trucks, and trailers, etc.).The following additional qualifications are desired:• Undergraduate or Associates degree in a natural resources-related field or in progress.• Pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.• National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group courses: S-130, S-190, and L-180, or similar.• Ability and willingness to complete field work in remote areas in difficult terrain and various field and weather conditions. Travel for extended periods of time may be required.• Valid State driver's license.• Ability to walk up to three miles per day and to lift 50 pounds.
