Reporting to: Distribution ManagerLocation: Houston, TXPosition Summary: The Assistant Distribution Manager assists the Distribution Manager in the hiring, training, and scheduling of employees. Will also assist in developing, implementing, and managing logistic strategies designed to ensure continuous distribution of wire and cable consistent with established standards, customer specifications, and production goals. TasksDutiesResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the Distribution Manager, oversees activities of employees engaged in shipping, receiving, loading, and unloading trucks and in storing, retrieving, packing, and distributing finished goodsAssigns team members to specific duties, such as verifying amounts of and storing incoming production products and assembling customer ordersLeads safety culture in all facets of workCollaborates with other departments and stakeholders to develop strategic plans and procedures to increase the efficiency of warehouse practicesEnsures orderly stackingstorage of product, picking and staging of outgoing shipments in accordance with high level of productivity and that incoming and outgoing shipments are complete and free of damageEstablishes operational procedures for verification of incoming and outgoing shipments, analyzes warehouse inventory, and provides reports showing slow-moving andor surplus stockReviews bills of lading for incoming product and customer orders in order to plan work activitiesTimely and efficiently maintains accurate and necessary department records and documentationEnsures appropriate maintenance of equipment and a clean and safe work environmentInterprets company policy to employees and enforces company policy and practicesCoordinates activities with sales, inventory control, purchasing, and transportation departmentsOptimizes and coordinates fulfillment order lifecycleDrives a high level of internal and external customer serviceEnsures that all products and services are consistent and meet both external and internal requirements, including legal compliance and customer expectationsAssesses opportunities to reduce waste and increase efficiencyMaintains active role on internal continuous improvement initiativesOther duties as assigned KnowledgeSkillsAbilities: Associates degree or equivalent distribution experienceeducation combination requiredBachelor's degree in supply chain, business, or related fields a plusDemonstrated ability to meet and drive positive, lasting, and high customer service levelsMinimum of 4+ years of related experience in distribution managementStrong supervisory and leadership skillsExperience in continuous improvementlean principles preferredExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to anticipate and solve problemsExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailProficient with inventory management software and systemsProven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with tight scheduling requirementsBilingual in Spanish and English a plus
