COLTENE is looking for an experienced Research and Development Manager to lead our Product Engineering group. The R&D Manager will actively participate with management in strategic and tactical planning for the business in an international environment; oversee all of Research & Development, new products, sustaining products and documentation; manage the necessary personnel, processes, and systems by setting direction that result in new products and continuous improvement in design, reliability and process of existing products; ensure processes and documentation comply with all regulatory and company requirements. Local candidates are preferred for this role. This is mostly onsite position, up to 1 day remote could be available after completing initial onboarding and training.Duties and responsibilities· Provide leadership and direction to the R&D department· Provide technical expertise to the R&D department· Drive the completion of projects on time and on budget· Contribute to management team regarding all aspects of product line and development and strategies· Provide planning and budget for future products, tools, and personnel necessary to implement the company strategic plans· Manage the department budget, including tracking costs and hours by activity· Oversee the Design Control process, including updates and improvements to the process within the regulatory guidelines· Assure that all designs are documented, verified and validated through properly documented testing, analysis, and review · Provide proper training and facilities in order to execute projects on time and within budget· Manage Intellectual Property as directed by Director of Regulatory / R&DQualificationsBachelor's degree in technical discipline, such as chemistry, biology, physics, or engineering; Master's or PhD preferredAt least 8-10 years of experience in R & D functionsAt least 3-5 years of experience being in a leadership roleProven ability to coach, develop and lead an engaged R&D teamProven ability to effectively execute on assigned initiatives Experience in product development from concept through launchProven ability to effectively drive multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously; including both new product development projects and product support activitiesWorking knowledge of all aspects of design and development process including design controls and design transfer activitiesExperience working within and/or closely with manufacturingExperience working with local and international cross-functional teams and peers Ability to effectively present information to top management, employees at all levels, managers, vendors and customersAwareness of trends within the medical device industryMust have a strong work ethicWorking conditionsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee works in primarily an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate. There are some occasions where technical support is needed in the production facility. This is a full-time exempt position, with hours of work and days scheduled determined by the Director of Regulatory / R&D. Special circumstances such as off shift and weekend work might occur on rare occasions. This position requires some travel and potentially international on occasion.Physical requirementsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily sitting for prolonged periods of time. Standing, walking or bending will occur from time to time. Prolonged periods of concentration and focus are required along with adequate interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with stress of time Constraints. The employee is required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
