RequirementsMINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Licensure and Certification: Current California Pharmacy Technician License Education Required: High School Graduate or GED Experience Required: Six months of work as a pharmacy technician; Newly Licensed pharmacy technicians will be considered Other Qualifications: Classification: Non-exempt PREFERRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification preferred. Newly licensed. CPR certification preferred. ESSENTIAL SKILLS: Must possess knowledge of medication names, doses and dosage forms for items commonly used in the hospital setting. Must possess visual acuity to distinguish various dosage forms. Must be able to read accurately read English printed language (the standard for all computer-generated medication labels and manufacturer-generated medication labels). Must possess positive attitude and willingness to assist others. Must be able to answer a telephone, listen to a caller’s request and assist the caller, if possible, or be able to direct the individual to the proper source for aid. Must be willing and able to learn basic computer skills (Pharmacy software, Microsoft Office programs, Wholesaler software, etc). Must be accurate when filling medication orders, including compounding intravenous medications (must possess math skills, aseptic technique skills). Must be able to communicate concerns, questions and requests to co-workers, patients/patient family, other healthcare workers and others in a courteous and respectful manner.
